Chairman's Report 2009

At the Annual General Meeting in Armidale on 10th February 2010, the Chairman (Mr Richard Jane) provided a verbal overview of the 2009 year. Richard was elected Chair of the Group at the February meeting in Tamworth

Successful meetings were held in Armidale and Tamworth during the year.

The February (Wed. 13th) meeting was held in Armidale

In May, Rex Glencross-Grant and I went to Newcastle to accept the Engineers Australia Engineering Excellence Awards for the UNE's BEngTech course. Congratulation to Rex and UNE staff who have worked so hard to resurrect this degree program, supported by EA and IPWEA.

Group member Rex Glencross-Grant was a keynote presenter at the 2009 Regional Convention in Grafton in June and John Moore also made a technical presentation.

On 20th August, the President Mr Peter Godfrey accompanied by Mr Barry Finlay (Division President)  and Mrs Helen Link (Division Director) attended the Group's two-monthly meeting.  Mr Robert Cork made a presentation of his overseas work with the aid group "Food, Fibre,Shelter"

The October meeting was held at Calala Inn, Tamworth on Thursday 15th after a field trip to the DPI Tamworth Agricultural Institute Technical Tour, looking at the propagation of cereals, insect control and biological agents and a presentation by Dr Robin Gunning, Principal Research Scientist.

The November meeting was held at Blickling Estate Winery at "Banalasta Estate" where members visited the lavender plot, the vineyard and the distillation process before a pleasant meal and wine tasting.

The chairman thanked officer bearers and members for their support throughout the year, particularly Emma Garraway (Sec.) , and Justin Cant (Sec.) who was unable to continue because of pressure from work, and to Graham Chase for stepping into the position at short notice.
